Day 8 Tyndrum to Oban

What a difference a day makes. Today we had lovely weather. It started and finished with us following beautiful Glens, in the morning it was Glen Orchy with is cascade of fabulous waterfalls, full with yesterday’s rain, in the afternoon it was Glen Lonan, meandering through hills and fields, sharing our single track road with startled sheep and indifferent highland cows. In between it was main road through the majestic landscape of Ben Cruachan and Loch Awe (which does what it says). We were disappointed to find the Ben Cruachan pump storage power station visitor centre closed (planned lunch spot), but found a delightfully situated picnic spot at a garden centre in Bridge of Awe that more than made up for it. Overall a much more pleasant and soul-rewarding day.
Oban, our stop for the night, is a vibrant port with fantastic views out to the islands, made more glorious in the evening light. We treated ourselves to a meal out for the first time since last weekend, and kept popping out to watch the sunset at the sea front.
